Post-Katrina Data Backups

After Hurricane Katrina, 45 percent of IT managers surveyed by the research firm Gartner Group had backed up their data. In 2004, only 6 percent said they backed up or replicated data.

According to a poll of college and university IT managers, their top five projects for 2006 are:

1. Upgrade infrastructure

3. Expand wireless networks

2. Increase security/protect data

4. Improve quality of Web site

5. Centralize data center

A survey of higher ed IT managers found that 56 percent have confidence in their disaster recovery plans, while 36 percent have updated those plans or are in the process of doing so.
